Abstract
The survey covered a total of 309 pre-school children in 25 villages of Yongin-gun, Kyonggi province was conducted from July 3 to 11, . 1981. The majority of the children were higher than 95% height, girth. of chest, and girth of heart, for age of the KIST figures, respectively. However, 25.9 % of the subject_ were lower than 90f/6 weight and 8.77o were lower than 85 % arm circumference for age of the KIST: figures, respectively.
Carbohydrates provided 74.9% of total energy intake, whereas protein and fat accounted for 10.9% and_ 14.2%, respectively. The dependence on carbohydrates for energy" in this study was similar to that reported for a low-income group in Seoul by Choi19) and Kim¢¥s¢¥ (74.9 to .76.2 %,), and was higher than that_ observed in the Yowido apartment compound in Seoul by Lee et al.?) and Hyun et al.8) (61 to 61.4%). The energy intake of children was 83.1 % of the recommended dietary allowances for I to 3 year-old, and 72.2: 76 for 4 to 6 year-old. The contribution of animal proteins to total protein was 43.470 for age of 1,-yearold, 34/a for 2 year-old; 27.7% for 3 year-old; 27.9% for 4 year-old; 22.7% for 5 year-old; and 14.3% for6 year-old. Low intake of calcium, iron, riboflavin and vitamin A was also found. Evaluation score of.¢¥ -meal balance and food diversity of children¢¥s diets were both found to be remarkably lower than those observed in Yowido apartment compound.
Our results suggest the need _ to develop the nutrition training of village women for, better nutrition_ _care of those young children.
